Made of thick heavy wool, cut for a well-defined form, this jacket would have depended on underlying corsetry in order to fill the body form correctly. My piece was based as closely as possible on the original cut of the jacket, using contemporary historic patterns, but made from translucent muslin fabric that was specially stiffened to retain its own form without any underlying mannequin. The braiding details were collagraph-printed using oil-based ink. A young man named Henry Cook was buried here in the 1830s, having been hanged for attempted murder, for knocking off the hat of a judge during the ‘Swing Riots’. You can read more about this below. It is said that the snow never settles on the grave, though nobody knows of its exact location, as it was unmarked.
